So, once a week, on Friday, we will highlight some of the website's top stories of the week. The news from and about Ferguson continues to dominate our local coverage.

Ripples from Ferguson

Coalition of Black Democratic Officials Endorses Republican Stream For County Executive

For some in both camps, the decision of a group of African-American Democratic officials to endorse Republican Rick Stream for county executive boils down to one word: payback. Coalition members cited Democratic splits over the continued protests in Ferguson. But the spurned Democratic nominee, Steve Stenger, asserts that he’s being paid back because he ousted County Executive Charlie Dooley – who also is African-American – in the August primary.

Could McCulloch Delay Grand Jury Announcement To Help Stenger?

St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch was helping Councilman Steve Stenger in his bid for county executive from literally the moment Stenger started running. Now some are speculating that McCulloch may help Stenger again, this time by delaying the announcement of the grand jury's decision in the investigation of Officer Darren Wilson. McCulloch strongly denies that he would do that.

Unusual Collaboration Grows Between Scientologists and Nation of Islam Amid Turmoil In Ferguson

The anti-violence initiative "Stop the Killing" has become popular among demonstrators in Ferguson since the death of Michael Brown. Though founded by the Nation of Islam, the message has been distributed most widely by a group sponsored by the Church of Scientology called the Way to Happiness. The program’s outreach in Ferguson is part of a new push to reach more diverse groups.

Changing Police Practices In Ferguson Could Have Bigger Impact Than Indicting Officer Wilson

When 250 Ferguson residents met with the Justice Department last week, many of them wanted the government to indict Officer Darren Wilson and to investigate the county prosecuting attorney -- neither of which the department can do. What the Justice Department lawyers did offer, however, was an approach that could result in fundamental changes in police behavior. A change in policing can be much more powerful than a criminal prosecution.

In And Around Canfield Green, Residents Seek A 'New Normal'

On a sunny morning in Ferguson, the boarded up windows along West Florissant Avenue are starting to vanish, replaced with sheets of glass. But for many residents, the damage of the past months won’t be easily repaired. Although nonprofit groups have offered aid in Ferguson, many residents are still reeling from the past two months of protests.

Artists Transform Abandoned Building Into 'Welcome To Missouri' Sign

An abandoned building with broken windows may seem nothing more than an ugly blemish. But to a mural artist, it’s a waiting canvas. Two muralists are completing the first phase of their project to transform the vacant Cotton Belt Freight Depot into a kind of welcome sign for commuters heading into St. Louis on the new Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.
