Hazelwood Mayor Matt Robinson is stepping down from his other political post as chairman of the St. Louis County Democratic Central Committee.

But he’s staying on as a member of the Missouri Democratic Central Committee and as a member of the Democratic National Committee.

Robinson says he is resigning from the county post so he has more time for other activities in his personal and professional life. He has headed county Democrats since 2004. He'll remain on the committee, though, as the Democratic committeeman for the county's Northwest Township.

Robinson, 47, is a sprinkler-fitter and a member of Local 268 of the Sprinkler Fitters Union.

As county Democratic chairman, Robinson found himself in the middle of the nasty 2014 Democratic primary between then-County Executive Charlie Dooley and then-County Councilman Steve Stenger. Robinson endorsed Dooley, but says he’s now on great terms with Stenger.

Robinson is endorsing the county Democratic Central Committee vice-chair, Mary Elizabeth Dorsey, to replace him. That election will be held Feb. 18.

Robinson said he chose to step down now so that the county Democratic organization could re-organize in time for this year’s elections.

On the GOP side, Bruce Buwalda says he is remaining chairman of the county’s Republican Central Committee.
