St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch announces charges against Jeffrey Williams on March 15, 2015.

A young man accused of shooting and wounding two police officers outside the Ferguson Police Department in March 2015 will take his case to trial.

Jeffrey Williams had been expected to plead guilty Monday morning to several charges, including assault and armed criminal action. Instead, he’ll take his chance with a jury. The trial is scheduled to start in August. Williams' attorney, Jerryl Christmas, did not return a phone call seeking comment on the change.

The 2015 incident happened as protesters celebrated the resignation of former Ferguson Chief Thomas Jackson. A St. Louis County officer was shot in the shoulder, and a Webster Groves officer in the face. Both have recovered from their injuries, though the Webster Groves officer was unable to return to police work.
