A Look at MetroLink after 10 Years

(KWMU staff)

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis –

St. Louis' MetroLink light rail system is marking its 10th anniversary Thursday. MetroLink now stretches 38 miles from Scott Air Force Base to Lambert Airport. Construction is underway on a new $550 million extension from Forest Park to Clayton and Shrewsbury, which is scheduled to open in 2006.

KWMU's Matt Sepic spoke with Ray Mundy, director of the Center for Transportation Studies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Mundy says the rail line is popular with St. Louisans, but extending it could put a financial strain on the system.

Metro will hold 10th anniversary festivities for MetroLink Thursday at Union Station.
