Jefferson City, Mo. – The Missouri Bar is working to recruit
lawyers to run for the Legislature.
Group president Bill Corrigan says there's a misconception that the Legislature is controlled by lawyers.
One-third of legislators were lawyers in 1900, but barely 13 percent are today. In fact, the Legislature has fewer lawyers than it has in decades.
Corrigan says five of 34 senators and 21 of 163 representatives have law degrees.
About 20,000 attorneys live in Missouri.
