St. Louis – Congress is honoring former President Reagan with a pair of commemorative resolutions.

The Senate passed a resolution Wednesday documenting Reagan's achievements from birth through Hollywood to the White House.

The House passed its own resolution, saying Reagan "reminded his countrymen of the nation's calling in world history."

Senator Jim Talent of Missouri spoke on the floor of Reagan's faith in the American people.

"He believed in what people build in their families, in their small businesses, in their schools, in their voluntary associations and organizations, in their churches and synagogues and temples," Talent said. "He believed in the great traditions of American culture."

Talent says President Reagan wanted government to respect the institutions of private life, rather than overthrow them.
