St. Louis – A former St. Louis election official pleaded guilty Monday to a sex charge involving a child.
Kevin Coan entered the plea in Madison County, Illinois, to a charge of indecent solicitation of a child. He was sentenced to probation for two years.
Coan was arrested three years ago. Police say he traveled to Alton, Ill., with the intention of having sex with a person he thought to be a girl he met online.
The girl was actually an Alton police officer posing as a child on the Internet.
Coan's lawyer says in a statement that Coan, quote, "deeply regrets the pain and embarrassment" for his family.
