Venice, Ill. – An agreement with education officials in East St. Louis means students from the city of Venice will have a high school to attend in the fall.
Voters decided in March to close the long-troubled Venice High School, which is located in a pocket of industrial poverty near East St. Louis.
Venice was turned down when it asked several other districts to accept its students. But Thursday, the Venice School Board accepted an agreement that will allow its 55 students to enroll at East St. Louis High.
Venice School Board member Derek Wise says the district still hopes to get the state to approve a charter school for its students before September 15th. That's when students have to be in school.
