St. Louis, MO – Debate officials say President Bush needs to decide soon whether he'll attend a planned debate in St. Louis.
Janet Brown, the director of the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, says that security concerns require a decision to be made quickly about the October 8 debate at Washington University.
Some Bush advisers have recommended against Bush's participation, saying the debate's town-hall format could lead to what they call "partisan questions."
Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry has already agreed to all three debates and formats proposed by the commission.
Both sides say they expect negotiations for the debate to conclude within the next few days.
