Cape Girardeau Couple Wants Hunting Banned when Drunk

By AP/KWMU

Cape Girardeau, MO – A couple in Cape Girardeau hopes Missouri lawmakers will make it illegal to hunt while intoxicated. That's because they say that's how their son was killed four years ago.

David McQuinley, 18, died when his friend's father shot him during a deer hunting trip four years ago. The man had been drinking and told authorities he thought he was aiming at a wild pig.

The man, William Ludlow of Waynesville, told authorities he drank three beers that day.

Vonda Knell, and her husband, Danny, want the state to pass a law to make it illegal to hunt while intoxicated. Earlier attempts have failed.

In March 2002, Ludlow pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault. He served ten days shock time in jail, was placed on probation and was told not to consume alcohol.
