St. Louis – A delegation of Chinese government officials was in St. Louis Monday to learn about caring for children with HIV/AIDS.
The group visited St. Louis Children's Hospital to see how staff there are treating patients-both physically and psychologically.
The delegation learned about successful methods of preventing HIV/AIDS transmissions between expectant mothers and their children.
Kim Donica is Program Director for Project ARK, which stands for "AIDS research and knowledge."
"Last year we followed 49 deliveries-zero infections," Donica said. "This year I believe the number is either 37 or 39, and also zero infections."
About 840,000 people in China have HIV or AIDS.
The delegates from the Chinese government's Department of Social Welfare plan to visit seven more American cities in the next week.
