East St. Louis, Ill. – Authorities in St. Clair County have arrested six people for selling illegal copies of movies at a flea market.
Paramount Studios had contacted the sheriff's department, saying they thought the pirated DVD's were being sold in Washington Park.
Police seized nearly 1,000 DVDs, including copies of some movies that aren't even available yet at stores, like "Batman Begins."
Investigators estimate the value of the seized movies at around $250,000.
Sheriff's investigator Thomas Trice says some vendors had been selling bootleg movies at the flea market for about two years. The raid last Friday followed a sting operation during which undercover police bought several of the DVDs for about $10 apiece.
