St. Louis, MO – Leaders in the north St. Louis County village of Bel-Nor rejected a plan Wednesday night to build houses on the Normandie Golf Course.
The course has been around for more than a century, and nearby residents worried the plans would destroy history and try to cram too many houses into too small a space.
"It's been a battle for over a year now," says Pat Williams, with the group Save Normandie Golf Course. "The community, the neighborhoods in Bel-Nor and Greendale were totally united against this development."
There is still a legal dispute that has to be worked out in court over the course. Williams says the group will still raise money and pass out "Save Normandie Golf Course" lawn signs until the matter is completely resolved, though he adds he feels Wednesday's actions all but kill the proposal.
