St. Louis, MO – The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) says the bill would give the Postal Service more control over rates and curb declining revenues.
The NALC's Art Buck says it also addresses a pension escrow account the Postal Service has been over funding.
"And that's a big reason why postage rates are going up two cents in January --
because we did not get postal reform
legislation passed," Buck said. "Senator Bond has been the big hold-up of that.
Senator Bond was not available for comment. But a spokesman says the senator will not allow the Postal Service to subsidize junk mailers by raising rates for residents.
