'Kite tubing' banned in Missouri lakes

By AP/KWMU

Little Rock, Ark. – The Army Corps of Engineers is banning kite tubing on its lakes in Missouri and Arkansas.

A kite tube is an inflatable platform towed by a boat. The entire tube is lifted into the air like a kite as the boat's speed increases. The tubes often overturn and throw the rider.

The ban announced Monday comes after at least two deaths from the sport in Texas and Wisconsin.

Table Rock and Bull Shoals Lakes are among the places where kite tubing is now banned.

Just last week, the Corps announced a kite tubing ban in the Tulsa, Oklahoma, district.
