St. Louis, MO – A group pushing to bring Major League Soccer to the St. Louis area by 2009 is moving ahead.
St. Louis Soccer United expects to present a property development proposal Monday to the Collinsville City Council. The group hopes to help fund a soccer-specific, 18,500 seat stadium for what would be an MLS expansion team, as well as a mixed-use development. The project would cover roughly 400 acres on what has been farmland.
Jeff Cooper, a Metro East attorney who played soccer in high school and college, heads St. Louis Soccer United. He says there's no U.S. city more deserving of or ready for Major League Soccer than St. Louis.
