St. Louis – Missouri Department of Transportation officials say they're happy with how the morning commute went following the shut down of a stretch of I-64 just after midnight.
The highway will be closed from I-170 to Ballas Road for the next year for reconstruction.
Transportation officials say St. Louisans heeded their warnings and got on the road early this morning and found other routes.
So it appears so far that this is a very successful launch of I-64, MO-DOT director Pete Rahn said. We are aware that traffic volumes likely will be increasing over the next several days with the return of students to school next Monday.
Rahn says traffic was light Monday but there were more vehicles on I-44, I-55, and I-70 than usual.
Officials expect traffic will be at normal volumes Monday.
