Hanley bridge closes at I-64

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis – The Hanley Road bridge over Interstate 64 in Richmond Heights closed early Monday.

The Hanley-Eager-Dale intersection south of I-64 can be one of the most congested in the area during any given rush hour. About 50,000 vehicles use the bridge each weekday.

But Dan Galvin with Gateway Constructors said it needs to be rebuilt, and drivers need to be ready for some inconvenience.

"It's obviously going to have a big impact on getting around that area," Galvin said. "It's so congested already that having to close it down is going to improve things but it's something that needs to happen for the long term improvement of that intersection."

Galvin said rebuilding the bridge and reconfiguring the Hanley-Eager-Dale intersection will take about eight months to complete.

Detailed construction schedules for I-64 are available at thenewi64.org.
