St. Louis, MO – St. Louis Cardinals groundskeepers worked 41 straight hours to make Busch Stadium playable after a concert by the Eagles and Dixie Chicks damaged a large portion of the outfield.
The outline of the stage was still there on Monday, with several squares of new yellow grass replacing dead spots. The impression spanned both power alleys.
A large rectangular area had to be replaced next to the warning track in the right field corner after getting crushed by a crane. There was also another long piece of replacement turf just behind first base.
The concert was held Thursday night and the stage wasn't completely removed until 8 p.m. Friday, leaving little time before a seven-game home stand that began Monday night.
A member of the grounds crew described the finished product as a "Band-Aid."
