Jazz Unlimited for Sunday, June 22 will be “The Keys and Strings Hour and New Music.” The Keys and Strings Hour presents the quieter side of jazz, without horns. Fireworks will not be lacking, however, as we present the music of two virtuoso pianists: Art Tatum and Hiromi. The New Music segment for June will feature a rare 1959 album by Andrew Hill, Sonny Rollins’ “Roadshows, Vol. 3 and music by Sun Ra, Mike Pope, Tim Warfield, two selections from the Creative Music Studio Archive Selections, Peter Lerner, the Awakening Orchestra, John Escreet, Roscoe Mitchell and two CD’s live at the Deer Head Inn, the longest continually running jazz club in the United States.
The Slide Show has my photographs of some of the artists heard on tonight's show.
This Archive of the show will oly be available until the morning of June 30, 2014
Here is a 1954 video of Art Tatum playing "Yesterdays."
