The October 26 Jazz Unlimited will be in three parts. New music by Ahmad Jamal, Jim Hall and Charlie Haden, Charlie Hunter and Scott Amendola and Roy Brooks will be heard in the “Keys and Strings Hour” (first hour). The third hour will also have new music by Dave Douglas and newly discovered live recordings by the Charles Lloyd Quartet with Gabor Szabo and by John Coltrane in which he sings and thumps his chest during his solo on “My Favorite Things.” The second hour will present tributes to the late reed player Paul Horn, pianist Joe Sample and drummer Frankie Dunlop, all of whom died this past summer.
The Slide Show has my photographs of some of the artists heard on tonight's show.
