Winter Holiday Show: Meditations On Peace

Jazz Unlimited's show for Sunday, December 21 will be the annual winter holiday show, this time called “Meditations on Peace.”  2014 has been a rough year for our world, our country and our city.  At this time of year many people espouse peace, but do they really mean it?  In 24 different songs containing the word “Peace” in the title and in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Sir William Gladstone, Petra Kelly, John F. Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Dwight Eisenhower, Petrarch, Ronald Reagan and Mahatma Gandhi, we will search for answers to that question.  Musicians featured will be our own Willie Akins, Peter Schlamb, Bob DeBoo Eric Slaughter, William Von Holmbracht, Oliver Nelson, Debby Lennon and Montez Coleman along with Geri Allen, Ben Allison, Ray Anderson, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Gerald Clayton, the Jazz Crusaders, Jason Moran, Oscar Peterson, McCoy Tyner, Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane and Matt Wilson.

The Slide Show contains my photographs of some of the musicians heard on this show.

The Archive of this show will be available until the morning of December 29, woq4.

Here is a video of Matt Wilson's Arts & Crafts - "The Scenic Route" live at the 2007 Elmhurst Jazz Festival. Matt Wilson, drums; Terell Stafford, trumpet; Gary Versace, hammond b3; Dennis Irwin, bass.
