Jazz Unlimited for Sunday, January 25 will be “Gershwin-Part 4: Classical Compositions + New Music” Gershwin’s classical compositions have also resonated with audiences. During our keys and strings hour, we will hear his piano roll versions of “An American in Paris,” Rhapsody in Blue” and “Novelette in Fourths” and duets between Gary Burton and Makoto Ozone on “Prelude No. 2 and the third movement of the “piano Concerto in F.” The remainder of the show will present new music by Tony Monaco, Bob Stewart, Illinois Jacquet, Chris Walters, Marc Seales, George Colligan, Aaron Goldberg, a group called “Chamber 3,” the Duane Eubanks sextet, Matt Criscuolo, Chris Potter, a very powerful group called “The Cookers” and a Scandinavian group called “The Groove.”
The Slide Show contains my photographs of some of the musicians heard on this show.
This Archive of the show will be available until the morning or February 2, 2015.
This video is a tribute to Jimmy Smith by organist Tony Monaco in 2006. The personnel are not listed, but I think that they are Robert Kraut (g) Louis Tsamous (d).
