The Jazz Unlimited show for June 14, 2105 is “West Coast Jazz-Part 2.” The jazz of the Left Coast in the 1950’s followed the Eastern trends in it’s own way and was widely condemned by the Right Coast jazz critics. It was popular because it was heard in films and TV shows of the time and also because of good distribution by West Coast record labels. We will hear music presented chronologically from 1956-1960 by the Bill Perkins Octet, the Vince Guaraldi Trio, he Jimmy Giuffre Three, the Curtis Counce Quintet, The Hampton Hawes Quartet with Jim Hall. The Bud Shank Quartet, the Carl Perkins Trio, the Bob Cooper-Bud Shank flute and oboe group, the Benny Carter Septet, the Poll Winners, the Warne Marsh Quartet with Joe Albany, Art Pepper with various groups, Cal Tjader, the Chico Hamilton Quintet, the Paul Bley Quintet with Ornette Coleman, two Harold Land Quintets, Shelly Manne and His Men, the Les McCann Trio, the Terry Gibbs Dream Band, the Mastersounds, the Ornette Coleman Quartet, the Marv Jenkins Trio, the Teddy Edwards Quartet and the Paul Horn Quintet.
The Slide Show has my photographs of some of the atists heard on this show.
