Local Ties Highlighted In St. Louis Author’s New Book ‘Sisterland’

Curtis Sittenfeld has sold nearly two million books.

The St. Louis resident has authored, “Prep,” “The Man of My Dreams,” and “American Wife.”  Her newest book is “Sisterland,” a story about the relationship between twin sisters who take different paths in life but return to their hometown of St. Louis.  One sister is a psychic medium and the other is a mother and wife.  When a minor earthquake shakes the St. Louis region, the psychic medium, Vi, shares a premonition that there will be a devastating earthquake.  Concerned, Vi’s sister Kate, is “forced to reconcile her fraught relationship with her sister and to face truths about herself she’s long tried to deny.”

Sittenfeld joined St. Louis on the Air host Don Marsh to talk about the new book, her experience as a St. Louis transplant and about her recent opinion piece, “Loving the Midwest,” which ran in the New York Times.  The piece generated a lot of positive and negative comments, which is why we had an online chat about it in June.

Sittenfeld is also working with Ready Readers, a St. Louis-based nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring preschool children from low-income communities to become readers.
