When Michel Martin, host of NPR’s Tell Me More, brings her show to St. Louis Public Radio’s home of UMSL at Grand Center on November 8, 2013, it should come as no surprise that education will be a topic.
“We’re very interested in education,” said Martin. “It’s been one of the signature issues we’ve followed since the program was launched six years ago. We try to follow education all over the country and …what’s going on in St. Louis with the transfer program is a hot story and we’re really excited to be able to cover it right there.”
Martin spoke with St. Louis on the Air host Don Marsh in advance of her visit to St. Louis. Tell Me More will be broadcast on St. Louis Public Radio on Friday, live at 10:00 a.m. and again at 7:00 p.m.
The Media
Michel Martin has spent more than 25 years as a journalist. Prior to coming to NPR in 2006, she worked at ABC News, the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal.
“There are some parts of our business that are still committed to covering events and ideas as they unfold and I think there are others in our business who are mainly driven by their need to attack their enemies as they perceive them,” said Martin.
“I think our news can be entertaining but our primary responsibility is to give people the tools they need to be citizens and to be effective in the world they live in.”
St. Louis on the Air provides discussion about issues and concerns facing the St. Louis area. The show is produced by Mary Edwards and Alex Heuer and hosted by veteran journalist Don Marsh.
