After an increase in robberies and burglaries in South St. Louis, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Chief Sam Dotson sent extra forces into three neighborhoods Monday as part of continued hot-spot policing efforts.
"Hot-spot policing is the way we do business," said Dotson. "What it does is takes resources and puts them in neighborhoods that have seen an increase in crime or problems that I'm trying to stem."
Hot-spot policing does not remove officers from other districts of the city, however, said Dotson. There are officers that are dedicated to hot-spot policing, separate from the officers assigned to districts.
And that is a policy that will remain through the transition of the police force from nine districts to six.
Also discussed on the show were recent decreases in crime, continued collaboration with St. Louis county police, police presence during peaceful demonstrations, and the role of foot beats and undercover vs. public operations.
