“Democrats and Republicans have proven over a long period of time that they look to big government to solve problems. The Libertarian Party is basically making a statement that says ‘We can solve a lot of our problems without this bureaucratic assistance,’” said Bill Slantz.
Slantz, of St. Charles, is the Libertarian candidate vying to represent Missouri’s 2nd Congressional District. Slantz totes strong Libertarian views on most major issues.
He disagrees with government involvement with healthcare. He explained, “The United States has the best healthcare in the universe. We have the best research, doctors, and equipment. And every single time we look to the government to put in regulations or put in licensing we are stifling the creative process of people who can provide us with the best healthcare.”
He believes we should halt military involvement in foreign countries, whether that involvement is fighting ISIS or Ebola. He supports the decriminalization of drugs. He is also against national financial support for areas impacted by national disasters. “I believe we shouldn’t have to spread the cost of a natural disaster across the national economy,” Slantz told “St. Louis on the Air” host Don Marsh.
Slantz however does see some appropriate uses of government. “I think these grand projects like telecommunications, power grids, highways- these are all good uses for tax dollars.”
Incumbent Ann Wagner (R-Ballwin) and Arthur Lieber (D- Creve Coeur) are also contesting the seat.
