Early on in the pandemic, St. Louis on the Air touched base with local musicians who shared how they were navigating the sudden loss of in-person performance opportunities.
Behind-the-scenes teams that make concerts a reality, be it in-person or virtual, were heavily impacted as well. That includes music venues like The Sinkhole, which is temporarily closed due to the pandemic, and Arch City Audio Visual Services, which sets up lighting and sound equipment for events.
In response, Arch City put their crew back to work by putting on high-quality livestream concerts — at no cost to the musicians themselves. The production company believes that livestream concerts will be in demand even after the pandemic settles down.
So far, they’ve worked with bands Le’Ponds, Fister and Story of the Year. Now, they’re taking it a step further by partnering with the Sinkhole on the “I Watched Music On The Internet” concert series. The venue’s owner Matt Stuttler curated a lineup that features 12 local acts who will perform live on Arch City’s curated soundstage.
On Friday’s St. Louis on the Air, Stuttler and Arch City event producer Chris Keith joined host Sarah Fenske to talk about how the pandemic impacted their services. They’ll also share more details about the virtual concert series, which debuts this weekend.
