The Kirkwood Democrat is running against Republican state Sen. Denny Hoskins in November.

The bill now goes to the Missouri Senate, which has already passed its own bill on the same topic. It’s unclear if the Senate will consider the House bill. Senate leadership said Thursday they would prefer the House pass the Senate version.

The Kirkwood Democrat is a member of the House Transportation Committee and is supportive of the proposal to expand portions of Interstate 70.

The budget includes raising the minimum pay for teachers, fully funding the state’s Medicaid program, including its expansion population, and income tax credits, as well as close to $3 billion in federal funding for projects across the state.

Members of the House also voted on Monday to advance a bill banning ballot drop boxes as well as one elevating 911 dispatchers to the status of emergency responders. All three bills now go to the Senate with three weeks remaining until the legislature adjourns.

Some lawmakers are worried schoolchildren will be waiting for their buses in the dark.
