As amendments aimed at legalizing abortion in cases of rape or incest were voted down, one Republican state senator defended the decision saying, ‘God does not make mistakes.’

The Senate’s proposed budget is $4.2 billion more than what the House passed weeks ago. Like in the House, most of the debate in the Senate was spent over an amendment that would have inserted language against diversity, equity and inclusion.

In addition to added transparency requirements, the bill bans the teaching of some diversity-centered topics. Senate Democrats believe the language would be interpreted too broadly.

The new guidelines allow coaches to assist athletes in seeking opportunities in which they can profit off their name, image and likeness. The new provision is part of a larger K-12 and higher education bill Gov. Mike Parson signed into law on Thursday.
