Seven years after leaving its old hospital in Belleville for the new facility, administrators are seeking state and local approval to build an ambulatory surgical treatment center and a medical office building.

Two factors are driving the district's plans: enrollment at the Metro East high school is increasing, and the district had added programs that require dividing space and creating new classrooms.

Rebecca Boyer and Karl Gilpin volunteered to become the organization’s new co-directors after learning that next year’s show was at risk of being canceled due to lack of leadership.

Co-Directors of Art on the Square, a staple of the Metro East town, sent an email to committee members last week, stating that they didn’t “see a path” for putting on a show in 2025.

Juan McCoy, formerly of the East St. Louis Police Department, was indicted Wednesday in connection with the incident, which occurred in October of 2019.

Humidity can bring the heat index up significantly, and “corn sweat” only adds to the moisture in the air.

The former director of the East St. Louis Public Library was indicted in federal court on five counts of wire fraud and embezzlement.

The actions at Monday's board meeting follow several teachers speaking out against Freeberg board member Jayson Baker. In his defense, Baker said he is "proud to stand alone, even if it comes at a great personal cost."

After leaving for a vacation, the Belleville family left their cat, Malone, with St. Clair County Animal Services after a biting incident to be monitored for rabies symptoms. The director of Animal Services later called the family to inform of them of "terrible, terrible mistake," according to the suit.

Proponents said consolidating the two small districts would reduce overhead costs, increase financial stability and improve the schools’ academic and athletic opportunities for students.
