While the majority of the Gordon F. Moore Community Park and the Spencer T. Olin Golf Course will open later this week, the soccer field where a mine collapsed below and an adjacent ball field will remain closed.

The timeline to determine the exact cause of the sinkhole last month — and the necessary repairs — are still being fleshed out.

The Lovejoy apartment complex, soon to be built in downtown Alton, is to be complete by the end of 2026 and house 120 family units. In all, the project will cost more than $50 million. The company building the complex received more than $1 million in federal funding for construction on Tuesday.
