The ethics committee dropped its investigation of Dean Plocher last week. But allegations of witness tampering linger as the legislative session nears its end.

The GOP chair of the Missouri House committee was thwarted in her attempt to livestream the hearing and include allegations of obstruction in a motion to dismiss the investigation of Speaker Dean Plocher.

A rejected report from the House ethics committee suggested transferring subpoena power automatically to another member of House leadership — the speaker pro tem — if the speaker or anyone on his staff are subject of an inquiry.

Under the proposed legislation, no public funds would be given to any clinic that provides abortions or its affiliate. Similar legislation has stalled in the Senate.

The starting salary for an child abuse investigator is around $43,000 a year.

The litigation filed in Cole County uses Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s argument that legalizing abortion will cost the state billions of dollars. State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick concluded that reasoning has no merit.

The Wright County Republican serves as the chair of the Children and Families Committee in the Missouri House. She says her No. 1 priority in her final year in the House is to keep working to help kids.

The measure also increases the penalty for illegally distributing abortion-inducing drugs to a felony.
