Speeding up construction on a clogged I-64 Metro East exit isn't possible, state says

Illinois U.S. Rep. Nikki Budzinski asked the state transportation agency last week to speed up the project on Interstate 64 between O’Fallon and Shiloh.

State inspectors found the exit ramp from I-70 to I-64 had a failed expansion joint. The construction to repair it will last until at least 2025 — and may be a pain for some commuters traveling east.

Over the next six years, Illinois’ District 8 could receive $3 billion for repairing and resurfacing bridges and roads under the new plans released by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
