The legislation passed the Missouri House by the bare minimum on Thursday. It now goes to the governor’s desk.

The Republican-led House gave first-round approval to legislation barring transgender athletes from participating on sport teams that align with their gender identity. Both bills need another vote before moving to the Senate.

The House General Laws Committee heard testimony on eight bills centered on the LGBTQ community on Tuesday. They would impose restrictions including barring transgender girls from participating in sports that align to their gender identity and from accessing gender-affirming health care.
