MidAmerica St. Louis Airport

The aviation giant said it is taking the steps with the production paused in the Pacific Northwest due to an ongoing union strike.

The project — which will connect MidAmerica to St. Louis-Lambert International Airport via light rail — is expected to wrap in spring 2026, according to the St. Clair County Transit District.

The Mascoutah airport, located adjacent to Scott Air Force Base, finalized the project Tuesday. It adds 41,000 square feet to the existing terminal.

For years, Metro East leaders have touted this proposed MetroLink expansion as a vital link to help travelers by connecting MidAmerica with St. Louis Lambert International Airport.

More people are flying out of MidAmerica even if there aren’t as many flights as before.

The $96 million project will add more than five miles of new track and bike trails to the existing light rail line to connect it to the county-owned airport.

Airport Director Bryan Johnson said the project would add to the economic impact of Scott Air Force Base and MidAmerica St. Louis Airport.
