A recent report from the Society of Family Planning indicates an increase in telehealth-provided abortions has fueled a rise in the procedure among Missouri residents.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is leading a lawsuit to restrict access to mifepristone, a common abortion medication. He claims that the lost "potential population" from teen parents will cost the state revenue and political representation.

Abortion-rights advocates are concerned Republicans will use the 1873 law that restricts the mailing of “obscene matter” to impose a national abortion ban.

A decision Thursday by the U.S. Supreme Court to reject a challenge to the federal Food and Drug Administration's approval of mifepristone doesn’t change the availability of the abortion-inducing medication for patients in Missouri and Illinois. But many say they expect other challenges to come soon.

It’s the latest move to expand access to abortion in Illinois as the U.S. Supreme Court weighs whether to block access to mifepristone.
