Music at the Intersection

This weekend's Music at the Intersection festival in Grand Center will honor 50 years of hip-hop. DJ G. Wiz, who has showcased hip-hop through documentaries and kept the music fresh for generations of fans will celebrate the genre with a tribute of DJs.

Music at the Intersection returns to Grand Center this weekend for its third year. Festival headliners will include Herbie Hancock, Thundercat and Snarky Puppy.

Muhammad Mvstermind Austin created Mvstercamp to train local artists on stage presence, guerilla marketing and industry standards — all lessons that he had to learn the hard way.

The next round of Kranzberg Arts Foundation’s 18-month artist residency program will have slots for eight people, spread among visual artists, writers and musicians. The deadline to apply is July 10.

Music at the Intersection returns to Grand Center in September and features more than 50 local, regional and national acts.

Tenor sax player Kamasi Washington and his band are in St. Louis this weekend for Music at the Intersection. For Washington, who has worked with rap and R&B artists and scored a former first lady’s documentary, it’s a chance to bring his artistic vision to life.

The Music at the Intersection festival will include Lady J Huston playing the music of Albert King, Seviin Li paying tribute to Tina Turner and a large group of jazz musicians exploring the legacy of drummer Montez Coleman.

The Music at the Intersection festival will feature four stages and more than 40 vendors, following a mini-music conference designed to push the local music scene forward.

The Music at the Intersection festival returns for a second year, with national headliners like Erykah Badu, Gary Clark Jr. and plenty of room for local acts. Festival organizers aim to make this year’s event even bigger with vendors and indoor and outdoor stages.

LaVette is recognized as one of the great American vocalists and song interpreters. Her show at the Sheldon in Grand Center on Saturday is part of the three-day Music at the Intersection festival.
