Pay Raises

The raises begin in January 2025 when the St. Clair County chairman, treasurer, assessor, county clerk, auditor, circuit clerk, coroner and county recorder will all be paid $106,540 each.

Parson said he hopes the significant pay increase will mean a lower turnover rate for state workers.

The Missouri Senate passed the first of two supplemental budgets on Wednesday. With no changes made to the bill, it now goes to Gov. Mike Parson, who’s expected to sign it.

The legislation is one of two supplemental budget bills the legislature will pass this year. The bill now goes to the Senate.

Both the Senate president pro tem and Senate minority leader agree that Missouri needs to pay state workers more. Whether they go with exactly Gov. Mike Parson’s proposed plan is yet to be determined.

The House passed the Senate version of a supplemental budget bill Thursday morning without having to go to conference committee. Gov. Mike Parson signed it Thursday afternoon.

The Democrat, who represents part of St. Louis, spoke on what he believes is a more fractious than usual legislature. He also delved into the Missouri budget, including the Senate’s decision to fully restore funding for state employee raises.

The decision backs the governor’s original funding proposal as opposed to the recently passed plan from the Missouri House.

The Missouri House also passed a resolution that makes several changes to the state’s initiative petition process. It would make it tougher for proposed amendments to the state’s constitution to make it on the ballot and for voters to pass them.

MetroBus, MetroLink and Call-A-Ride continue to see shortages of drivers due to the coronavirus pandemic. Bi-State Development officials want to hire 150 drivers. The company has increased drivers’ pay and will provide on-the-job training to attract more employees.
