The ransomware group known as Hive has stolen confidential patient information from Sikeston-based Missouri Delta Medical Center, including Social Security numbers and medical information.

The St. Clair County board voted unanimously Monday night to approve a new policy hoped to minimize security risks from future attacks. The new policy adds multi-factor authentication on county accounts and raises requirements on county network passwords.

The county government hopes to bolster its network security to prevent what happened to neighboring St. Clair County.

St. Clair County’s website is back online following an alleged ransomware attack that may have given a hacker group several gigabytes of sensitive data.

Several services provided by St. Clair County via the web were unavailable Wednesday after the county disabled its website out of “an abundance of caution” following a ransomware attack on the county.
