The first hearing is set for Nov. 5 in Macoupin County.

“Grow Your Own” programs are increasingly common. Collinsville School District 10 is expanding the concept with scholarships for students to pursue education degrees and, eventually, loan repayment for those who come back to teach in the district.

“More than anything else, these lawsuits are major distractions for school districts that are working harder than ever to provide students an education in school in a safe manner,” said the district’s attorney.

“Guidance is guidance. Guidance is not a rule. A rule is enforceable. A statute is enforceable,” one Republican representative said.

Vaccines and testing are two key tools for districts that are adjusting to a school year that’s very different from last year and the years before.

The mandate applies to all schools, public and private, that serve students from pre-K to 12th grade. The rules also apply to all childcare facilities.

The Madison County Board of Health has an advisory committee of health professionals, but its members were not consulted for input on the masking resolution.

Marian Middle School is the city's only all-girls Catholic middle school. School administrators describe it as a “school beyond walls” because its students are equipped with resources that help them, and their families, overcome societal and financial obstacles.

Metro East schools are trying to get ahead of any surge in coronavirus cases following winter break by keeping students home a little longer.

Madison County, in particular, is down 850 students.
