Dubbed the “Yellowhammer Connector,” the new trail and bicycle and pedestrian bridge will connect campus to Madison County’s central bike trail. The name for the new trail comes from an early 20th-century streetcar corridor that ran near the new trail.

The Metro East transit service is starting MCT Micro on Monday. Similar to Uber or Lyft, people will be able to catch a ride in most of Collinsville.

Like other employers, Madison County Transit is struggling to hire drivers. To avoid burning out employees, Managing Director SJ Morrison said MCT will reduce routes in low-traffic areas.

Madison County Transit will spend a combined $45 million for the county’s bike trails and bus system. The county will add 20 miles of trails, two tunnels and seven bridges.
