While the Missouri House and Senate have both passed their own versions of bills restricting access for gender-affirming health care and sports participation for transgender youth, no bill has passed both chambers. With two weeks remaining in session, Parson said he’s prepared to call lawmakers back to pass the bills.

The new state Senate district map, drawn by a panel of judges, has reshaped the 24th District to where it is now the most competitive Senate race this election cycle.

Gov. Mike Parson wanted a starting date of Sept. 6 for a special session on an income tax cut and agriculture tax credits. However, Republican leadership in a joint statement said they intend to use this week for further negotiations.

The Springfield Republican said that the legislature already passed both tax relief and agriculture tax credit programs this past session before Gov. Mike Parson vetoed them and that passing them the way Parson wants them could be a heavy lift.

Parson made his comments on the session after the Governor’s Ham Breakfast at the Missouri State Fair on Thursday. Politicians and candidates across the state attended the event, including the Democratic and Republican candidates for Missouri’s open U.S. Senate seat.

Parson’s announcement comes after he vetoed a bill Friday authorizing a one-time, nonrefundable tax credit. On Thursday, he vetoed the $500 million allocated for the credit, foreshadowing a rejection of the credit itself.

The plan adopted Tuesday night was the third draft of a redistricting plan that had been introduced in the span of 48 hours. Voting rights advocates say they didn’t have enough time to review the new maps.
