Members of Metro East rescue groups have worked for hours to secure and treat 26 dogs they found on a property along Waterloo Road near Millstadt.

Frank Bergman, the county’s HR director until his termination in 2023, states in the lawsuit and other court filings that an investigation he was conducting into several employees’ allegations in the fall of 2022 revealed “inappropriate actions."

Of all Illinois jails, Madison County has the most incidents of restraint lasting longer than 10 hours–the upper limit set by the chair manufacturer. The jail said they’re not equipped to care for so many mentally ill detainees.

Whether the money would actually make it to St. Clair County came into question when President Donald Trump ordered a freeze on federal aid. However, the White House rescinded the order Wednesday.

Crews will resurface 3.5 miles of the roadway, repair bridges, add new lighting and make signing and drainage improvements between Illinois 15 and Illinois 157 in St. Clair County.

The settled lawsuits involved allegations that St. Clair County did not pay overtime compensation to employees and that sheriff’s deputies injured two people detained at the jail.
