If the Missouri House passes the bill as is, the legislation then goes to Gov. Mike Kehoe’s desk.

The city’s Democratic Central Committee met Saturday with representatives of all 14 wards. Nine voted in support of endorsing Mayor Tishaura Jones, and 15 members voted for Spencer.

The Senate is expected to approve the bill on Monday. Because the Senate made changes to the House bill, it would go back to that chamber for another vote.

Mayor Tishaura Jones will face Alderwoman Cara Spencer of the 8th Ward in the April 8 election. Recorder of Deeds Michael Butler was third, while retired utility executive Andrew Jones was fourth.

The St. Louis Civil Service Commission ruled Tuesday that Mayor Tishaura Jones can fire the personnel director.

Less than 18% of the city's registered voters participated in the election, according to unofficial final results — down from about 22% in 2021's mayoral primary.

The St. Louis Reparations Commission ended its 18-month study on the city's history of racism last October. Mayor Tishaura Jones doesn’t yet have a plan for reparations but says cash payments would be unconstitutional.

The House also passed legislation barring state funds from going to diversity, equity and inclusion programs and a bill shielding companies from having to place specific cancer warnings on pesticides.

Early voting in the March 4 primary begins Tuesday. Voters can choose some or all of the candidates, with the top two advancing to the April general election.
