Mount Hope Cemetery has been a thorn in Belleville’s side since the mid-2000s. City officials are considering a deal to buy the property and clearing 25 of the 132 acres for the solar farm. Some locals are opposed.

Dar AlJalal currently buries its members at the nondenominational Laurel Hill cemetery. But it now has more than 1,700 members, up from 500 in 2011, and is running out of space for new plots.
